Thanks deej! It's such a fun dress to wear!. I have old fashioned chocolate brown lace up shoes to wear with this for my trip to Sedona, Arizona--but my husband liked my slip on shoes that I have on in the photo. He says it makes the dress more feminine. I have cut out 3 more dresses and plan to make each one different with embellishments. Only 5 more weeks before my trip...got to get sewing!!!
Thank you! The material looks very dark. It has feather tips overlapping with colors of dark brown, black, and rust. Ruffles are fun to make! I put pieces of black lace and dark brown double muslin along with the cotton feathers fabric.
Initially, when cutting out the hem, I made an error. Instead of putting the hem piece onto the fold of my material, I cut 8 pieces. A lot more work zig zagging all edges and hemming under...but, I did like the way the hem looked choppy. And sew, I put large wood buttons onto each narrow piece of the hem edge, changing the look a little. But, I will do it correctly on my next dress, as I realize the big hem going from narrow to big and back to narrow--is how Tina Givens got her look in the dress made from blue Chambray fabric that is pictured in SYCHIL Issue #3. Sometimes mistakes make a decorating challenge!
It is indeed a western look! Thanks! I made it to wear on my upcoming trip to Sedona, AZ. I'm wearing it to a Halloween party--with a beautiful brown feathered mask that has a silk rust colored flower. This dress is fun and works well with shorty dark brown leather tie up boots. But when I wear it with the shoes pictured, my husband likes the look more.
Absolutely adorable! I love the colors.
