I can't seem to find merfaerie posts with her lovely tg_Pip she made in double gauze ....she seemed to know and sew a lot with double gauze, I have not. So, this question is out there for anyone who knows about sewing with double gauze....
I am getting ready to cut out a pattern in double gauze fabric (Pip). I prewash all my fabrics before I sew but when I pre-washed the gauze of course it got all 'bunchy' and soft....now harder to layout out the pattern to cut. So the question is ...with double gauze are you suppose to cut the fabric/pattern first and then wash? I figured I could just gently steam back into shape to layout and cut pattern? any suggestions? thanks....
I answered my own question! It was the selvage edge that was very 'bunchy' and wrinkley so I lightly steam pressed and everything laid out flat after that. I cut the pattern out without a problem....on to sewing!
sorry I took down all my posts and don't plan on participating in the forum, my FB page was hacked and taken down. But to answer your question, I buy the gauze at Hobby Lobby, do not wash it before you cut it out and sew it together the fabric is easier to handle unwashed. Most of TG patterns I cut out and sew together and then wash and hang. They look better.
I only prewash my linen fabric because it shrinks so much. Even then I use a cold wash a cool dryer. I hang dry my finished garments. But everything else I cut without prewashing
