I guess we’re all in the same boat with this pattern. Makes me feel a little better. 🤨
🤦🏼♀🤷🏼♀️
Hi. I actually did make Eileen and here is my experience. First, I didn’t heed Tina’s advice and I tried making it from quilting weight cotton. Bad idea. It didn’t drape enough. It definitely needs voile, tissue weight linen, or even something synthetic like a rayon, IMO. This top is very large! Super wide. It felt like wearing a tent and again, my bad for not choosing the right fabric. As to the pattern, when you see it on Tina (she looks so cute in hers!) there are a couple of tucks at the center front—the pattern did not instruct me to do those so I didn’t. Maybe my top would have been better if I had followed the picture. Second, I didn’t feel it was gathered enough. Maybe I would make four panels if I try again. Also, the stiffer fabric I used didn’t help. So if I try again with Eileen I’ll use slinky drapey fabric, make a couple of tucks in the front and back center, and cut four panels. I am a medium and here is my Eileen. I didn’t show it earlier because I’m not proud of it and I’m definitely cutting the skirt off and using the fabric for
something else. Sorry. Not a great picture but you can see what happened.
too funny mine looked like that only in voile. I think Tina would look good in a bag she is so tiny and cute. I tried to make tucks in the front I tried everything and decided it was not a good look for a 5'10 2X girl. So I cut it apart and will make something else out of it. thanks for your reply
@merfaerie I’m 5’2 1/2 and don’t weigh 130 lbs. I normally wear a size 4 jeans. I don’t look good in this dress. I think it’s the pattern. Not the person.
Ok.... so I’m not the only one. Forgive the setting, mine was hanging in the laundry room and I was so embarrassed I wasn’t even going to take a picture. I made it tangerine batiste, it’s very soft. But it’s just so dang big. I used the xtra small and I’m very busty, even though I have narrow shoulders. After I saw the video of Tina I decided to try it. I ended up cursing the skirt 7 ways to Sunday trying to get the pleats right and then it was so big I took 3 pleats over each rib section front and back and it’s still to big. its A lost cause. 🙇🏼♀️
thats how mine turned out but I'm remaking it a little differently ill show it
too funny 7 ways to Sunday LOL thanks you made me feel better
@merfaerie what can I say... it was better than the words that were actually coming out of my mouth. My dad worked the railroad and he taught me how to cuss... my boys say they learned from me. I look like a little southern lady and butter won’t melt in my mouth? But oh my! Don’t make me mad 😂😂😂😂
it is a very cool design I would like to make it again in something dark
I agree it would suit someone more “willowy”. I tried nipping it at the bodice and the silhouette might be better for me although it sort of defeats the design. The thing is I really like the idea of this little (BIG) dress! I have a very full skirted slinky print dress ina giveaway bag that I may try to recut to the Eileen. If it doesn’t work in that drapey stuff I’ll know it’s just not for me.
I'm remaking it into a tunic top, ill show it
Just reading your responses to this, it is very interesting isn't it how a large oversize shape can either look good or bad on a specific body type as you would think that a 'shapeless' thing would look the same but it really doesn't. I think I will avoid this one! Sorry you ladies are having a bad time.
There is a video of Tina showing hers off on Facebook (SEW Tina Givens)
I've seen it and Tina looks adorable in everything, it doesn't look so good on a big tall girl it hung like a bag, not sure if I will try again. It is was big make it small if you make it
@merfaerie yes that’s why I decided to make mine!
