Along with the national contemporary quilt opening I was lucky to have taken a class with nationally known quilt artist Terrie Mangat who gave a class on reverse appliqué technique.
I love this technique so much more than surface appliqué. Here is my finished reverse appliqué block. This fabric block is about 9 x 13 inches...definitely going onto something I sew this summer! Terrie also showed us how to do embroidered mirrors. Terrie is a fabric print designer as well and she brought multiple fabric scraps of the fabric she had designed for us to use..fun!
Here is a link to some of her work. http://www.solwaygallery.com/Terrie_Mangat_exhibition.html

Loving this!
Beautiful and fun! I love reverse applique, too. I have some pieces of African embrodeiery that I would love to use on a piece. Maybe we can share some ideas!
I have both tg_Violet and tg_Marrissa that have pieced pattern parts. I thought either of these patterns might work with nice repurposed print fabrics, velvets and appliqué work. I was hoping the new 'Ottis' would have been released by now because it to looked to be a pieced pattern, although I think the top part was in knit fabric. I have wanted to play with Violet with it's pieced front panel for awhile and just have not done it. This reverse appliqué block made me dig the pattern out and see what else I could use from my fabric and repurposed fabric hoard to get it made. but I have not started anything yet. I think reverse appliqué block could work on some of tg pattern's as a large pockets detail...maybe tg_Porscha.
