I´m doing my first sugar slip and ... well, maybe I´am a bit slow on the uptake but: I just can´t my head around how to make the drawstring channel in version A.
I´m given a 4x23" wide strip to stitch right to right side along the slit in the sideseam. Okay. I understand that I shall turn it to the wrong side, make a rolled edge on the strio and stitch it down.
But then the channel is very wide. Is that intentional or do I simply not understand how to do this?
By now, I tend to narrow the strip piece down, fold it in and stitch.
But there is still the nagging worry, that I just don´t get it right. Sugar is a well thought-out pattern so I´m pretty sure that the error ist on me...
May one of you much finer and more experienced sewists please help me with that?
Ah, I´d love an edit-function to ones own posts, so one could correct her awkward typos and auto-edit-fails...
I’ve done this once, and it’s been awhile. My finished channel Is about 3/4” -1” wide. That implies that I trimmed off some of that 4” width. I also stitched along the outer edge of the channel—like a waistband. I’m thinking a strip somewhere between 2 1/2 to 3” would be right. I think 4” is too wide. Maybe Merfaerie will answer. She has the most experience that I know of on this forum. I’m including pics of mine.
Thank you for your reply! I am not shy to change a pattern but sometimes it is the little things that hit me blindsided and I start to think too much about these. 😣 So your reply is very helpful!
Good luck! You really can’t make a mistake! Just call it part of your design and keep sewing! Your finished garment will be fab!
