  • RESULTS ARE IN

Thank you for participating in the survey. We are still getting more results but I thought I'd share preliminary results, which in my experience don't change much past 500 people. So, the main point of conducting this quick survey was to glean where and how you purchase your fabrics, what fabric you love to sew with, and what machines you prefer. Prefer to sew substrate: 84% Linen 80% Cotton 30% Quilting Cotton 29% Jersey Knit Love this! We love organic cloth here at SEWTG. Where do you purchase: 40% Purchase linen online 45% Purchase both online and in-store 48% Purchase cotton both online and in-store This was a half-and-half situation where most purchase both online and in-store. I do know that linen is usually less expensive online, so that was not surprising. Brands: 84% Familiar with Robert Kaufman Fabrics-store.com for linen 60% Merchant & Mills 55% Art Gallery Fabrics 33% Benartex 35% Nani Iro 30% Not surprising! I know we advocate for Fabrics-store, and Robert Kaufman is a well-known brand that manufactures a variety of garment fabrics at reasonable prices. What was surprising was that half of you are familiar with Merchant & Mills. Preferred Sewing Machines in use: 25% Bernina 20% Singer 17% Janome The rest was a mish-mash of brands. Bernina is a top-selling brand with beautiful technology. Did you know that it's a Swiss Brand and they sell more garment machines in Europe than they do Quilting machines which is the reverse in the USA? Most favorite high-end machine to purchase: Bernina is a favorite, 50% said you'd pick Bernina However, 30% of you didn't know Bernina sold garment sewing machines or machines at all. 70% of you sew 1-2 garments per month 30% sew 3-10 garments per month. Why do you Sew: 58% of you chose - Joyful, Mindful, Creative,Hobby Demographics 16% 45-55 60% 55-65 30% 70+ I adore each one of you. You create your own clothes, you are joyful and creative, and you choose us for sewing patterns. Thank You Thank You! tg

  • Awaken Your Spirit

I wanted to write this article because I am currently reviewing and reflecting on my life on a personal level. It is with self-compassion and self-love that I turn to these days to awaken myself, my spirit, and my soul. Being a creative human being my mind has to declutter from time to time, as I am sure we all do. From my point of view, my relationships are invaluable to me but sometimes I soak up others' energy as we all do. And sometimes we have to reflect on that and turn it out. I do this by taking time to be still. I am sure we are all on the move every day, day in and day out with responsibilities, relationships, household chores, and appointments. I urge you to stop for a moment in your week and take time for just you. Tap into your inner wisdom, passion, creativity, and resilience. Your spirit is an essential part of your being, and it is responsible for giving you purpose, motivation, and inspiration. When you awaken your spirit, you light up and that helps you to tap who you are deep down. Remember that little girl who ran with the wind, not a care in the world? Bring her back into your consciousness and think about her. She was so free to be anything. So I urge you to awaken your spirit and refresh and open your eyes to an enhanced you! Here are my favorite things to do: 1. Slow down and listen In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to get caught up in the chaos and noise. To awaken your spirit, take some time to slow down and listen to your inner voice. This may mean meditating, journaling, or simply taking a walk in nature without any distractions. I am not so much a meditation girl, but I do listen to music and play 1930s joyful blues and jazz. Billy Holiday is a favorite crooner. She sings to my soul! I do journal a lot whether it's drawing or writing to get inspiration, churn up a poem, and keep it for you. I do walk too, but not in the cold. Sorry, not going to happen. A good drive in the car with the sunroof open in frigid temperatures if it is sunny and the heat turned up -- this always gets Webster (my Chihuahua) and me a little gilt of happiness. 2. Practice gratitude Gratitude is a powerful tool for awakening your spirit. When you take the time to appreciate the good things in your life, you cultivate a positive mindset and attract more positivity into your life. Start a gratitude practice by listing three things you're grateful for each day, or mentally thanking someone who has made a positive impact on your life. I am so grateful for my children, that I have a roof over my head, my nest! I am grateful for having a loving and supportive sister who is the complete opposite of me, and I am grateful for the friends I have around the world. I am also blessed and so very thankful for you. You're an amazing community of wonderful beings who inspire me every day. And I am grateful that I can share what I do with you! 3. Connect with others Your spirit is not separate from those around you. To awaken your spirit, it's essential to connect with others and form meaningful relationships. This may involve joining a social club, volunteering, or simply reaching out to someone you admire and asking to grab a cup of coffee. I know I can reach out to my close tribe, and I always feel great! But, did you know I am an introvert? So reaching out to new people is very difficult for me. I don't have time for a social club because I am too busy with what I do. I sometimes volunteer and that always makes my spirit sing. 4. Pursue your passions Your passions are the fuel that feeds your spirit. This is so very true! To awaken your spirit, it's essential to identify what you're passionate about and pursue it with vigor. I know you sew alongside me and it makes my day. You curate fabric and designs you gravitate toward. I ask, what is your most passionate endeavor? Do you write, paint, or illustrate? Do you make beautiful things outside of your wardrobe? Do you cook, bake, or make quilts? If so, this is a part of your soul, so you nurture that as much as you can. It will continue to invigorate your soul! 5. Take care of your body Did you know, our physical health is closely tied to our spiritual health? To awaken your spirit, it's essential to take care of your body by eating well, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep. Healthy eating is at the core of a healthy spirit. Cut out a few sugary treats and add in a few more healthy vegetables. Cut out a few carbs now and then, your body and stomach will thank you. I don't know about you but if I eat heavy carbs my stomach is not happy, and so I am miserable. Don't get me wrong I love pasta and bread, but I try to moderate these yummy foods! I believe our stomach is an essential part of our female body that connects with our well-being so very much. Keep it healthy and you will feel so good! So please, take some time to awaken your spirit. It is profound and gives us transformative experiences that can lead to greater fulfillment, joy, and success in all areas of our life. By slowing down, practicing gratitude, connecting with others, pursuing your passions, and taking care of your body, you can tap into your inner wisdom and light up your inner being within yourself which will help you to live your best life. Thanks for being here! I thought a little diversion is nice sometimes to create thought and reflection. Much love, tg xoxoxo

  • Ignite Your Light

I was in a fabric shop over the weekend and while I was waiting in line for my fabric to be cut, I started chatting with the beautiful ladies around me. Their shopping carts were full of bolts waiting to be cut for their sewing projects. One of them as sewing for her tiny grandchildren and was inspired by the fabric she found. She was thrilled and let me tell you she lit up with the joyful inspiration to sew for these little angels. It clearly fills her soul! I asked if she sewed for herself and she said "No, I wouldn't know where to start." She was cute in her oversized black tea and wide legged linen pants. I told her about what we do and what we offer and she was giddy to search for a solution to her question. "Where would I start?" Another lady spoke up and asked for the website so we had a sweet little cheering session for sewing for self and what it brings us! One woman came into the conversation and sweetly said she sewed with my patterns for years! And they all were remarking on her 'Plinka pants' and 'Elope' tunic! I can't tell you the joy this brings me. Then the woman behind the counter who was slugging away with a sore back cutting all this fabric, she sparked up and said "Oh Tina your patterns 'ignite my light' in so many ways." I almost dropped on the floor in glee! "That is so beautiful, hank you!" I said! Light up your life and yourself -- by being you, bringing your beauty forward, healing, and nurturing your personal energy. Just by doing what we love to do can strengthen our immune system. Create your own sewing rituals and enjoy the practical, yet fun, steps for building a comfortable and stylish wardrobe on your terms. Each pattern in our library is so close to my heart and packed with inspiration and insight to hopefully embellish your energy in the way you look, feel, and experience life. Ignite Your Light by finding what else lights you up, to grow the resilience of your mind, body, emotions, and spirit, and to refresh your routines all day long. When we have something that is our own in crafting, having our personal crafting space, the fabrics we purchase and the time it takes to sew up something special to wear or gift. Music that makes us dance and sing as we work through our craft; Healthy foods that support glowing skin and attention to our self-care rituals, from yoga to skin care routines. Make simple shifts to improve your long-term health and happiness via your mindset, actions, environment, and relationships. Honor yourself in every way. Whether you quilt, knit, crochet, embroider or sew for yourself and your children or grandchildren, choose what makes you happy, because your joy and smile will fill the room, with your light. I can only bring the best of what I think is fun and easy, with design ideas and inspiration to assist in what and how you sew. Ignite Your Light by simply being you and doing something that brings you joy. Like my ladies said 'Sewing is my time!' And so, by positively influencing your energy, growing the beauty in your daily life, you will shine your light on the world around you! We are working on a new resource for our pattern library. Of course you can search for any pattern on www.sewtinagivens.com but this catalog will not only index every pattern but offer insight into what patterns to coordinate to create capsule wardrobes of wearable interchangeable garments. It's coming soon! Smooches, xoxo
